The 3 Most Common Mistakes I See Patient's Make

We all make mistakes.

There...now that we are in agreement that we are all human.

It is the mistakes that we repeatedly make that always come back to haunt us.  This is also very true when it comes to mistakes I see patient's make in regards to their health. Over the 16 years that I have been in practice, along with seeing thousands of patients, I have pinpointed a few of the most common mistakes.

Let's take a look...

1. No Consistency:  One of the things that is important with all aspects of health, including chiropractic care, is consistency.  Eating well, exercising, or receiving chiropractic care can't be a sometimes thing...it has to be done consistently. The people that commit themselves to getting and staying healthy obviously have much better results than those who dabble in it.  In chiropractic I see this play out with both adults and children.  Those who stay on a regular adjustment schedule have results that far exceed those who are very sporadic. Remember, it is much easier to stay well, than to get well.

2. Losing The Forest From The Trees:  What I mean by this is that many folks tend to put too much focus on what is happening at this very moment, versus the big picture of what they want to accomplish.  Weight loss is a prime example of this, as many get so focused on what the scale shows on a given day, and not just improving their health and eating habits. I always say that if you put all your focus on doing the right things day in and day out, you will arrive at whatever weight is healthy for you.  In chiropractic this problem also rings true.  I understand that many come in to my office in some sort of pain or discomfort, and I want them to feel better as much as anyone. However, if we are not focused on the cause of the pain, versus the pain itself, we will never get the desired result we are looking for.

3. Neglecting Other Important Parts of Their Health:  This too, is a very common issue. You can't just excel at one aspect of taking care of your health, and think that will overcome other downfalls. You can't just have a healthy diet and ignore regular exercise and chiropractic care.  You can't just get adjusted regularly and think that you will be healthy despite your poor diet and sedentary lifestyle.  And finally, you can't live a healthy active life, but have a poor diet and neglect your nervous system.  To reach optimal health you have to commit to excelling in all aspects of your health.

All of this may sound daunting to some.  Change in life can seem a bit overwhelming.  But as you begin to chew it off in little pieces, and do so consistently over time, it eventually just becomes part of your life.  Good health is one thing you should not take for granted, but rather work at every day of your life.  Make time today to do one thing that moves you closer to consistently taking care of yourself. That is what will help you leave the mistakes behind, and create a new you, where you are able to...

LIVE well. BE well.
