Rest, Recharge, and Reflect...

As the we approach the Holiday's and the year comes to a close, many of you will be taking some well-earned time off from work.  This is a great opportunity to take a step back from our regular, and what can feel like endless, commitments. How will you spend this time?  What will you do?  I think it is important that we are mindful and intentional in not only how we spend our daily lives, but also in our down time. It can be a crucial time that can set us up for success or failure in the coming year.

Rest and Recharge

When it comes to physical fitness, rest and recovery is one of the key components to big improvement.  You can't go 100% all the time, with little or no rest, and think you will be as successful as you want to be.  Rest is needed to allow your body to heal and become stronger.  This is also true in our everyday lives when it comes to mental and emotional fitness.  Scheduling regular and consistent rest time to help recharge and rejuvenate your mind and spirit can go a long way towards a healthy mental and emotional well-being.  This is one place Europeans have it figured out.  On average they will have twice as many vacation days in a given year compared to people in the United States.  It is important to be dedicated and focused on your life's work and purpose, but it is equally important to take time to smell the roses along the way.

Reflect

Looking back on the events of the past year doesn't mean that you are dwelling on them.  It can be very beneficial however to look back at both the things you did well this past year, as well as those things that didn't go quite like you hoped.  Many times you can learn much more from your shortcomings than you can your victories.  Once again, don't dwell on them, but understand what went wrong, look to the future on how you can improve upon it.  Equally as important to your overall morale and self confidence is celebrating your victories.  Appreciate those things you did well this past year, and map out goals for even greater things in 2018.

It's always good to have a target you are shooting for to help avoid wandering aimlessly into the future.

Finally, be sure and give thanks this time of year for everything that all of us are so very blessed with.  There are countless people in our community and around the world that are far worse off than any of us.

Make it one of your goals in 2018 to not only live the life of your dreams, but also one that is full of gratitude.

This is an important component in your overall health and well-being in order for you to....
