Let me start by saying that chiropractic doesn't treat allergies.  So why do so many people report improvements with allergies while under chiropractic care?  Let me explain...

What Are Allergies?

Common seasonal allergies present with many symptoms including sneezing, itchy eyes, congestion, and runny nose.  Some of these symptoms, when mild, are a normal reaction by your body to rid itself of various substances and adapt to the world around you.  However, when these symptoms become chronic and excessive, this is an inappropriate reaction and a sign of malfunction in your body.

Traditional Treatment....Is It Right For You?

Traditional medicine merely works toward managing allergy symptoms, but offers no cure.  Unfortunately this approach ignores the cause of the problem, and the treatment it offers can many times lead to serious side effects from the dangerous medication (whether over-the-counter, or prescribed).

Is There Another Choice?

Improving your body's ability to adapt to the ever changing environment is the ideal way to deal with allergy symptoms (I will get to that in a moment).  However, if symptoms persist many will seek more natural solutions to managing the symptoms.

3 of the more popular options include...

1. Neti Pot:  Nasal irrigation that help to flush out excess mucus and debris from the nasal and sinus cavities.  Quick, easy, and effective.

2. Butterbur:  An herb that comes in capsule form, and is used to treat allergies as well as migraine headaches.

3. Stinging Nettle:  One of the most common treatments for allergy relief.  Dr. Andrew Weil M.D., author of Natural Health/Natural  Medicine, says he knows nothing more effective than nettle for allergy relief.

Where Chiropractic Fits In...

Your nervous system is the master control for everything in your body, including your immune, glandular, and respiratory system.  Combined, they help your body respond and adapt to the world around us.  Sneezing endlessly to the smell of grass (for example) is a sign of an abnormal reaction.  When your nervous system isn't working right, you don't work right. Rather than focusing on the symptoms, we focus on the cause.  Improve the function of your nervous system, and you will be surprised how much better your body will respond to every day things we are all exposed to.  It's not the pollen that is the problem, it is you.

Combined with a healthy diet and lifestyle, regular chiropractic care can help your body function at a high level of health.

LIVE well.  Be well.
